What is the Guild of Guides and why does it matter?

The psychedelic ceremony landscape is growing rapidly. More practitioners, more offerings, more variety in quality. In this landscape, the Guild of Guides Netherlands plays an important role — as a professional organisation that sets and maintains standards. But what does it actually mean?

What is the Guild of Guides?

The Guild of Guides Netherlands is a professional association for practitioners who guide psychedelic experiences in the Netherlands. The organisation develops ethical guidelines, professional standards and a code of conduct that members must adhere to.

The focus is on safety, professionalism and ethical practice — both for participants and for the broader social context in which psychedelic experiences take place.

What standards does the Guild set?

Among other things, members commit to:

  • Thorough screening and intake for every participant
  • Clear informed consent — participants know what they are entering
  • Professional boundaries and anti-manipulation conduct
  • Attention to integration support after ceremonies
  • Continuous personal and professional development
  • Transparency about pricing, approach and contraindications

Why does this matter for you as a participant?

Without external standards, the quality and safety of ceremonies varies enormously. As a participant you want to know: is this person trained? Do they work professionally? Is there a structure in place if something goes wrong?

Guild membership is not a guarantee, but it is a signal. It means a practitioner has committed to a set of professional and ethical standards — and is held accountable for this by a community of peers.

Our approach

Our work is inspired by the ethical guidelines of the Guild of Guides Netherlands. This means: transparent communication, careful intake, professional boundaries, integration support and continuous development as a guide.

We believe that ceremony work carries responsibility. Not just for the experience itself, but for the entire process — from the first contact to months after the ceremony.
